VCA ART 2022

Madison Blake

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

My body of work explores the relationship between humans and the resources we derive from the natural environment to create our homes. I explore these relationships through sculptural forms, found materials and sound. Specifically, the artworks are created from materials sourced from backyards and building developments in Greater Melbourne/Naarm. I am interested in the way our relationship to the materials that build our homes is disconnected from the larger home of humans – the earth’s surface. I seek to give a restorative voice to discarded objects through a conversational exploration of the materials. I document the disconnect between humans and the value and management of natural resources in a time of climate crisis. My work does not strive for the perfection found in manufactured objects, but embraces the unpolished beauty of the natural world.
