VCA ART 2022

Sally Vivian

Master of Contemporary Art

Reflect offers four elements: ice melting into a mirrored glass tank on a mirror with a polished steel support, creating reflections and shadows on the wall; two glass tanks with videos of water projected into them; and a floor projection of the sea. The viewer may be implicated through their reflection.

My work reflects my interest in time, materiality, metaphysics and transformation and explores the interaction of light, surfaces, reflection and projection. Lines and reflective surfaces suggest a formalist aesthetic. There are few boundaries between the installation and the fabric of the space as it forms an essential part of the work.

The installation offers the opportunity to reflect on the nature of water and our interconnection with this substance – the essence of life.
