VCA ART 2022

Lola Hewison

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography)

Treading the line between documentary and fiction, ambiguity and the familiar,
my practice fixates on obscuring the recognisable and conserving intimate
moments. Drawing from narratives both cinematic and real, I am curious about
what constitutes the ceremonial, outside of religious motivation. I am captivated
by events, practices and enactments of physical exertion that occupy both
communal and individual time and space. I attempt to approach my practice with a
somewhat ethnographic eye, taking influence from film and the moving image. I am interested in our intrigue toward and relationship to narratives that sit outside our cultural disposition.
