VCA ART 2022

Alanah Bottecchia

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

My captivity began from the moment I came into this world, raised by the expectations of culture and religion.

My body of works is my liberation in which I exert rebellion and pursue freedom. The Birth Of (2022) is an immersive video and performance installation which explores trauma, control, and identity in relation to religion. My performance defies these notions; it is an exploration of my own identity and a rebellion through which I break free from the cultural mould. Often uncanny, my works draw on humour as a mechanism for relief and as a means to escape from vulnerability. In an act of vulnerability, I seek through my work to create a new sense of self-expression to be experienced by the viewer.
