Combining found and constructed materials, Balance is a collection of metaphorical assemblages. Each work is composed of repaired riverbed rocks and other occasional objects. To me, repairing cavities to restore the wholeness of the rock is a metaphor for the re-construction of identity, while the vertical composition suggests an ultimate goal of balance. My approach of patching the stones is inspired by the Japanese concept of Kintsugi (repair with gold) which expands the imagination and playfulness through materials.

I work with the naturally round shape of found rocks, repairing them with various materials to improve their geometry. To me this contrast between materials juxtaposes the development of an object with its natural state, while also inviting a spatial engagement with the concept of restoration and balance.
