Russia invaded – primal shock. We normalise war and military symbols and machines throughout culture. Amidst illiberal tendencies of secular politicians cultivating religiosity and coopting intolerance – as if humanity doesn’t have enough trauma to deal with – we threaten our environmental salve with the ultimate destruction of nuclear war, while rebuilding an eschatological off-ramp.

Romanticism has always been conceptual and so art must reacquire its instincts to be an instrument of humanity beyond the ‘art world’. As society embeds military tropes into culture, I embed them towards aspects of their representation through the transvaluation of values commonly ascribed to mediums whether drawing, painting or the digital and photography, of works within works, to show decisions having been made for us, too often in our name.
