VCA ART 2022

Claudia Plowright

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Taking inspiration from fungi and decomposition, my drawing practice focusses on the slow, natural processes of decay. While we demand and call for immediate and rapid regeneration and renewal, we must also recognise that these processes require patience and time to occur. Through the gradual and deliberate act of drawing, I work to build an image which is both serene and sepulchral. Combining moments of domestic intimacy – like stepping into the bath, and resting in bed – with images of rot and active compost, my drawings collapse the divide between human and plant. Through this juxtaposition, I recognise that, like plants, we become the culinary delight for terrestrial worms.
