VCA ART 2022

Jasmine Lawrence

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Inspired by the endlessly generative collaboration that is shared knowledge, my Exchange series fixates on the unifying potential of private emotion. Like sedimentary rock layers, my works assemble and flatten disparate experiences, sounds and observations into a single configuration, resulting in sensory video collages that evoke the intrinsic exchange between memory and dreams.

Emphasising our common need for connection, mutual understanding, and beauty, Exchange V.1 draws from a solo traveller’s journal and photographs to expand the definition of ‘shared memory’. Highlighting the aspects of their experience that personally resonate, Exchange V.1 is an illusory audio-visual work that gently draws awareness to our overlapping appeals for intimacy. The second iteration, Exchange V.2, documents my journey with the same traveller, now my husband.
