Jackson Mclaren

Honours

Working between painting and textiles, I explore the possibilities of abstraction. My work is informed by my background as a musician, using music in dialogue with the visual languages of twentieth century modernism. The monochrome, and horizontal bands of colour and squares are recurring motifs that play out on a hessian substrate. Using repetitive weaving processes, mirrored with painted surfaces, my materially guided practice finds rhythm that is contemplative and analogous to song.
