VCA ART 2022

Kira Richards

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)

My practice explores themes of space and femininity. Space, in the sense of everything the word means – distance, the air between you and I, the cosmic, etc. I use feminine symbols like sparkles, jewellery and storybook-style stars (think The Little Prince). I give these symbols room to breathe, creating installations that draw attention to the way the works inhabit space, the audience’s relationship to them, and the negative space between the works.

A four-pointed star scultpure, sliver in colour, suspended from a lightweight chain on a white background. There is another star in the distance, out of focus.
