Emily Caudry
Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting)
Over the past nine years my work has crossed the disciplines of painting, sculpture, performance and installation. I harness themes of pop culture, utilitarianism and the absurd, predominantly through paint and manipulated found objects. Recruiting industrial design, commercial design and architecture, I bring material to the forefront exploring volume and scale.
Intensely colourful and carefully arranged, my recent work seeks to broach consumerism, performance and play. Drawing upon childhood and domesticity, I combine plastics and paint to create altogether foreign yet familiar sculptural pieces. Inorganic, mechanical objects are frivolously coloured, reminiscent of household appliances. Asserting its own kind of interior environment, the work explores functionality and the phenomenon of the uncanny valley.
