George Manioudakis

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting)

My work explores the materiality of paper through the process of layering; its formation is akin to relief sculpture. It comprises water, flour, sugar and spray paint. The assemblages fabricate a series of non-uniform, undulated surfaces activated with luminous and transient colour compositions. The imagery draws on aspects of nature and culture. Fused into one ecological structure, the works are conceptualised through the amassment of biotic, processed and coloured matter.

Paper is an ancient material manufactured into a refined substance. However my works aim to reflect and preserve its organic and natural constitution. They assume an abstracted simulation of digital landscapes, shallow ravines and lost horizons which evoke a sense of atmospheric obscurity, inducing a dream-like introspective impression.
