Tahlia Mccuskey

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting)

My oil paintings are haunted by loosely rendered figures and terrains based upon collected and self-taken photographs. Recalling childhood experiences of drought, the barren contours of dried creek beds and arid environments become the background to explore what is kicked up with the dust of an Earth denied of rain. The sun-bleached pallet and hazy brushstrokes of the paintings depict people and places trapped within a ghostly reminiscence that is tangible in some areas but disintegrated in others. With these half-manifested recollections, I create subtly eerie atmospheres that contemplate our susceptibility to our surroundings.
